Agave (The Century Plant)

The Agave family of plants live in the desert, and have the unique ability to store water within their swollen leaves, stems, and roots.
The Century Plant is the largest native Agave plant in Southwestern United States. It shoots up a stalk to 20 feet towards the end of it’s life cycle and lives up to 15 to 20 years.

Anaheim Chili Seeds

New Mexico Anaheim Chiles are commonly strung into brilliant red Ristras of chiles. The Anaheim Chili is the New Mexico state vegetable and is harvested green (used as a vegetable) or red (used as a spice). Anaheim Chiles score between 500 and 2,500 on the Scoville scale.

Boojum

The Boojum Tree is native to Baja California and a small area of Sonora, Mexico. The Boojum Tree resembles a giant upside down parsnip and is in the same family as the Ocotillo. It can grow up to 54 feet tall and live for possibly 300 years.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne Peppers, also known as the Guinea Spice or Bird Pepper, are native to the tropics of Central and South America. As Cayenne Peppers mature the color changes from green to red. When the Cayenne Peppers are still green, they can be used to make excellent salsas. When the peppers become red, they are more commonly used in dried powders as a spice (Red Pepper in your spice cabinet!).

The Columbine flower is the most recognizable to Colorado gardeners. It is a very showy flower and is easy to germinate. It can be found growing wild in the mountains as well as on rocks and in shaded areas under trees. The white and lavender Columbine flower was adopted as the State Flower of Colorado in 1899. It is actually unlawful to dig or uproot the flower on public lands!
